Ayatollah Khamenei receives police commanders and senior officials.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in a meeting on Sunday with police commanders and senior officers, referred to “security” as a “top priority” issue. Stressing full and serious supervision by police officials on the “soundness of mindset and action and moralities of staff” and “guaranteeing social and moral security", Ayatollah Khamenei said: “Formulate the plans based on ‘wisdom and logic’, ‘willpower and authority’ and ‘abidance by law and leniency’ so that a fully proper image of police will be sketched in the minds of appreciative people.”
Referring to several important events in recent months in the country, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution heaped praise on the police commanders and staff and the esteemed minister of interior for their endeavors and efforts in establishing security during the Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies (February 1-11) and the Bahman 22 (February 11) nationwide rallies marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the safe and secure holding of two rounds of elections for the Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament) as well as the election for the Assembly of Experts, and also their responsible deployment on roads across the country during New Year holidays which started March 20 and lasted two weeks.
Regarding New Year vacations, Ayatollah Khamenei noted that road crash fatalities have declined, but still stand high. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said police and other responsible organs must make efforts to continuously reduce the fatalities.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the issue of security is very important and of high priority, and emphasizing that without security, everyday life, scientific, academic and economic activities and administration of the country become impossible, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution added: “Practical steps and action in the domain of the Economy of Resistance and the growth of the pure tree of endogenous economy also require security.”
Ayatollah Khamenei underlined the significance of examining the roots of insecurity by police and responsible organs and underlining the necessity for all organs to assist the police, he noted: “Soundness, precision and high motivation among the high-ranking police commanders and the esteemed minister of interior’s fairly fatherly behavior toward police are unique opportunities that must be benefited from more than ever for reaching the desired objectives.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed the need for the administration to help the quantitative and qualitative upgrade of the police. Highlighting the necessity of serious attention to the issue of public contribution, Ayatollah Khamenei said: “After precise study, police and the Ministry of Interior must identify and announce the arenas for public presence and assistance.”
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the extent of police’s communications with people, and underlined the high significance of these forces, saying: “’soundness of mindset, action and morality in police forces’ will make their communications with different strata of people more cordial as they also help win people’s support.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said “precise, overarching and persistent supervision” was key to the police forces’ sound performance and laid emphasis on the expansion of police presence across the country and establishment of security in all residential areas and living places including shanty towns, remote spots and towns.
Ayatollah Khamenei noted that the issue of “moral security” and people’s concerns in this regard are among important issues that must be taken into account by police, saying: “Drug addiction, wickedness and transgression give rise to physical, spiritual and moral endangering of the society. Therefore, by benefiting from expert views of thinkers and pundits particularly within the police body, precise planning must be made for dealing with these issues.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said: “In the issues related to moral security, after precise, solid, wise and correct planning, [sporadic] opposition by certain people or media hype should no longer be attended to, rather the affairs must be pushed ahead by trusting in God.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said the formation of a fully proper image of police in the people’s minds was necessary, noting: “In people’s minds, police must be portrayed as a ‘kind and strong fellow’.”
“‘Authority and firmness without ruthlessness’, ‘internal soundness’, ‘timely and quick presence’, ‘leniency and helping people’ and ‘abidance by the law’ are factors that will help present a positive image of police,” added the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Ayatollah Khamenei said materialization of these issues [goals] will prepare the ground for police to make progress and contribute to the country’s advance.
The Leader of Islamic Revolution described as “good” and “persistent” the country’s progress despite 37 years of attempts by enemies, adding: “The Islamic [Republic] establishment has made enemies eat dust and the enemies’ attempts for creating despair, pessimism and division in the country are rooted in their anger at Iran’s progress.”
Ayatollah Khamenei called on all officials and people to look after the prevailing unity in the country, adding: “Creating dichotomy, schism and bipolarization are deadly blows which the enemy is seeking to strike.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said certain abnormalities and deviations in the society are similar to those in every other country, adding: “For a general analysis of conditions in Iran, the general drive must be taken into consideration, and thanks to God, the dominant drive and view are quite good.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also described the activities of the politico-ideological department of police in delicately promoting religious motivations within the body as valuable and appreciable.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also extended gratitude to the families of police commanders and staff for their patience that has facilitated their service-providing job on the large scale.
Prior to Ayatollah Khamenei’s speech, Brig. Gen. Hossein Ashtari, the state police chief, offered congratulations on religious fetes of the month of Sha’ban on the lunar calendar, saying: “‘Monitoring and controlling borders’, ‘enhancing the operational potential for combating bandits, terrorists and drug traffickers’ , ‘making systems intelligent’, ‘reducing the number of road crash fatalities’ , ‘respecting discipline in all aspects’, ‘protecting human resources’ and ‘helping the materialization of the Economy of Resistance’ are among plans and activities of police.”
“Responding to public concerns and demands including tackling transgressions and organized corruption top the agenda of police, but of course, that requires persistent follow-up and empathy between the three branches of government and different organs in the country.”
